CV Match Check

See how clearly your CV matches a specific job: your match score, the employer's key words you're missing, and the UK conventions recruiters expect. Takes about a minute.

1The job advert

Paste the whole thing: title, responsibilities and the "what you'll need" part.

2Your CV

Upload a PDF, Word (.docx) or text file, or paste it in. It's read in memory and never saved.

We keep your results (your score, the advert's key terms and our checks) for 30 days so your results link works. Never your CV.

In your results

  • Your match score, with the method explained
  • The employer's key words you're missing
  • UK checks: length, photo, personal details, spelling
  • A prioritised to-do list (free, by email)

By running a check you agree to our terms. It's a guide, not a verdict.

How the score works

No black box. Here's exactly what we do.

We'd rather you understood the score than trusted it blindly. Most applicant tracking systems don't automatically reject CVs (a person reads them), so this is about making the match obvious to that person.

  1. We read your CV in memory. PDFs, Word files and text are converted to plain words. Nothing is written to disk.
  2. We tidy the words. Common words ("the", "and") are removed, and endings are lightly normalised so "managing", "managed" and "manage" match, and so do "organise" and "organize".
  3. We find the advert's key terms. Single words and two- or three-word phrases, weighted by how often they appear, where they appear (the title and requirements count more; "about us" and benefits count less) and whether they look like a skill, tool or qualification.
  4. We score the overlap. Your score is the weighted share of those terms your CV shows: exact phrases count in full, phrases whose words appear close together count 80%, and scattered words count 50%.
  5. We check UK conventions. Length, photo, personal details, personal statement, contact details, date order and format, British spelling, plus readability and section structure.
